Math practice assessment and final assessment

My math class is nearing the end of Module 1! We will be working on the math practice assessment in class on Wednesday and they will bring home a copy to study or re-work on Wednesday night.  The real assessment is on Thursday.

Here is a copy just in case...

1. Sarah works in a candy store. She has many different types of candies. She has 16 flavors of Jolly Ranchers. Her display bins are 4 rows across. Draw an array to show the total number of Jolly Ranchers.

a. Fill in the missing factor.  Write a sentence telling what it represents.
4 x __________=16

b. Write a related division sentence to find the number of Jolly Rancher flavors in each row.

2. Sarah packs 16 Jolly Ranchers into bags.  She puts two in each bag.

a. Draw a picture to show how many bags of candy Sarah packs.  How many bags of candy does she pack?

b. Sarah takes 16 Snickers and packs them into bags of 8. Draw a picture to show how many bags of Snickers Sarah packs.  How many bags of Snickers does she pack?

c. Draw an array to represent her Jolly Ranchers.  Draw a second array to represent her Snickers.  Explain the relationship between the 2 arrays using number sentences and words.

3. Sarah puts together goodie bags for a birthday party.  10 have regular candy and 10 have sugar free candy.
This shows how she calculated the total number of goodie bags.
(2 x 5) + (2 x 5) = 4 x 5

a. Use Sarah’s method to find the total.  Explain each step with words.

b. Sarah broke 1 row of five goodie bags. Fill in the unknowns below to describe how many are broken and how many are not broken.

4 x 5 = _____ x 5 + _____ x 5

4. Sarah decides to stuff goodie bags with all hard candy next.  She decides to use 7 hard candies per bag. She makes 4 bags.

a. Draw a picture and write a multiplication sentence to find the total number of candies she uses for the 4 bags.

b. Sarah uses the equation 4 = ______   7 to figure out how many candies she needs.  Is her method correct?  Why or why not?

c. If she has a total of 30 hard candies, how many are left after she makes 4 goodie bags?

d. Sarah boxes up the 4 goodie bags.  Each box fits 2 bags of candy. Draw a picture and write a number sentence to show how much candy is in each box she fills.
