Ms Whalen's class Birthday Celebrations Third Grade Birthday celebrations are all about being healthy! Please sign up for your child's birthday month, and provide some snacks to celebrate.  Birthday parties are from 3:00- 3:25.  Please drop off before you if you are not planning on staying.  Summer birthdays will be celebrated at the end of the year.

3rd grade birthday celebrations!

Just a quick note to explain how 3rd grade does birthday celebrations!!

We celebrate once a month- usually on the last Friday of the month. At the end of that day, we will celebrate with healthy snacks only. Popcorn, veggies, fruits, cheese, crackers- are all welcome foods.

You will receive a notice in the month that your student has their birthday, letting you know which day the celebration will occur.

The days will most likely be:
September 30- (August and September birthdays)
October 28
December 2- (November birthdays)
December 21
January 27
February 24
March 24
April 28
May 26
There will be an end of year celebration that includes summer birthdays during the week of May 30- June 1st.

Walk/Bike to school Fridays

Hello Fellow HASE Walkers and Bikers,

         Hopefully, you are all ready to roll (or stroll) with the Health and Wellness Committee this Friday during our weekly Walk & Bike to School Fridays! With this being the first time, we are hosting this particular type of weekly event I would love to see lots of families come join us.

         The Health and Wellness Committee has come up with what we hope is a very user friendly website announcing our rides. Parents are able to sign-up their kids for the rides. There is a blog portion so we can cancel due to inclement weather and inform the community. The meeting place and time we leave are both listed. Parents can sign up to receive email updates for our future rides and there is a contact section as well.

Hello Parents!


To celebrate the end of a great school year, Ms. Whalen and Mrs. Neuhart would like to
have an End of Year Celebration for the 3rd graders and their families. The party is set to
take place on the last day of school...


Friday, June 3 from 1:30-3:00 – Large Playground


To make the party extra special, they would like to have
some healthy treats for the kids. For example, Popsicles,
Popcorn, Fruit (Watermellon, Strawberries, etc.)

Summer Work

As some of you have notice, there are colored papers coming home this week regarding required summer work.

Every student that is entering the fourth grade is required to read Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper... http://www.amazon.com/Out-My-Mind-Sharon-Draper/dp/1416971718 . You can either self buy this book, borrow a copy from the public library or Highline can provide a copy for you if you let us know you need it.

For math... a pink sheet is coming home today outlining that students can continue their online math lessons from www.zearn.org . If you need a paper packet instead, we are happy to provide one. Please just let know by this Friday so we can make a copy for you. Important information:

All families are welcome to come join and cheer! Please make sure your child has sunscreen on before school, water bottle, and appropriate athletic footwear. They are allowed to wear athletic bottoms and shoes all day. Homerooms will be assigned team colors for that day. Please see the list below for the color of shirt to wear based on homerooms. (The shirts can be any color hue)

Date: Thursday May 12th 

Time: K - 4 9:00 - 11:00 am 

          5 - 8 1:00 - 3:00 pm 

What to wear: Wear you grade color along with athletic bottoms and tennis shoes!!

Grade Colors:

Kinder and 5th -- pInk 

1st and 6th - blue

2nd and 7th -- Green 

3rd -- Red

4th -- Orange 

8th -- White

** They can wear any hue of that color, it can be patterned but needs to be mostly that color.

Parent Satisfaction Survey

The oldest sibling in each family will be bringing home an envelope containing the 2015-16 DPS Parent Satisfaction Survey for Highline Academy. We highly value parent feedback and appreciate your time in completing the survey. Please help our school achieve a high SPF (School Performance Framework) by turning in your survey by Tuesday, May 3rd. Please do not staple, bend, fold, tape, or photocopy the surveys. Damaged surveys will be invalid and will not be included in the results.

You have two options to return the survey: You can either return it to us (inside the sealed envelope) or mail it in from home. Please complete the bottom of the sheet attached to the survey envelope and have your student return it to their teacher. In exchange, your student will receive a dress down day voucher (ALL students in the family will receive this voucher). Thank you for your opinion and participation!

Snow Day and Ms. Tobias

Today is a snow day and the perfect time for you to spend a moment with your child. Please take a moment today to let them know of the loss of Ms. Tobias. She passed away peacefully yesterday morning but her family assures us that she felt the love of the Highline family all through her process. This is an incredible loss to our school and she will never be forgotten.

PARCC practice

We will be PARCC testing very soon!! On Monday, March 21, Tuesday, March 22^nd and Thursday, March 24^th, we will be testing for reading. After Spring Break, we will test for math.

Don't Forget!!

Monday, January 25th is our field trip with Balarat!!! Dress code is uniform top with jeans or uniform bottoms. Dress your student in layers with appropriate footwear for snowy hiking. Please send along a water bottle. This is going to be awesome!!

Field Trip

Both third grade classes will be heading out for a field trip by Balarat to Aspen Valley on January 25th. It is a half day field trip with my class going in the morning and Ms. Neuhart's class going in the afternoon. Please look out for the field trip form coming home today.

Thursday folder help
